Book Parade

Every year, the three and four year old classes at the kids' school have a book parade. The kids dress up as their favorite book character and carry their book with them as they march around the block. The school pulls out all the stops by having a police car as an escort and the junior high band lead the way. Last year, Bailey dressed up as The Cat in the Hat. This year, she was Tinkerbell and carried a Peter Pan golden book!

Sick Days

So last week was a fun one at our house. (Insert sarcasm.) It all started on our way to Waco for Baylor Homecoming. Bailey developed a stuffy nose and cough. I assumed it was allergies and gave her some meds from the mini pharmacy that I took with me. The cough continued to get worse so as soon as we got home on Saturday Judd took her to the Urgent Care Clinic in town. Unfortunately, it had closed 30 minutes before they arrived. Bailey ended up doing better that night and seemed fine all day Sunday. When she went to bed that night, she coughed and coughed and coughed. Poor baby. Judd said that if she wasn't better Monday morning, he'd take her to the pediatrician. Well, she woke up with a fever so there was no question about a visit to the doctor. She ended up having strep and started antibiotics.

Meanwhile, Campbell developed a fever on Monday while at school so he was sent home early. I had planned on taking Tuesday off to stay home with Bailey because she would not have been fever free or on antibiotics for 24 hours. Instead, I stayed home with both of them and took Campbell to the doctor to find out that he, too, had strep. He also started a round of amoxicillin. Neither one of them were 100% on Wednesday so Judd stayed home with them again. By Thursday, they were finally able to go back to school!

All was well until Campbell broke out in hives on Saturday evening! We suspected it was a reaction to the amoxicillin and called our pediatrician (you know, the one whose office phone goes directly to her cell - we love her!) She told us to give him Benadryl and an hour later go ahead and give him his evening dose of amoxicillin. The hives cleared up within 30 minutes! The next morning he was still doing fine so we gave him another dose of amoxicillin, per the doctor's instructions. When we picked him up from the nursery after church though, the hives had returned. After another call to Dr. K, we were instructed to give him Benadryl, stop the amoxicillin, and she called in a different antiobiotic for him. He began taking that on Sunday evening and had it again on Monday morning. All was good until Monday evening when he broke out in hives AGAIN! Without calling Dr. K again, we just gave him Benadryl and did not give him his antibiotic. We will call her in the morning to see what to do next. I wonder if this means he is allergic to all penicillins.
Update: We went back to the doctor on Tuesday because they wanted to test him for strep again and see if we still needed to be on antibiotics. The test was positive so the doctor put him on the only thing left for strep. She said she doesn't like to prescribe it because it can upset their stomachs. We have made sure Campbell has something on his tummy before taking the medicine and he has been fine. No upset stomach and no hives! The doctor isn't 100% convinced that he is allergic to the other two antibiotics because she said that strep itself can cause rashes/hives. She said she would give him amoxicillin again when the need arises and we'll see how he does with it.

They sure don't look sick, do they???

Happy Halloween...

from Strawberry Shortcake and Thomas the Train Engineer!

Our Halloween festivities started on Thursday when the kids dressed up in their costumes for their parties at school. Doesn't Bailey look cute as a red head?

Campbell was happy until...

we put his hat on!

Bailey at school

This afternoon we went to our church's Fall Festival. Bailey would NOT wear her wig and didn't even want to wear her costume. She said it wasn't cute. She threw a huge fit before we left, but was happy once she got into the games at church.

Campbell wore his hat! He enjoyed helping me man the bean bag toss.

Bailey got her face painted.

and did the sack race. She's on the left and our new pastor is on the right.
He's awesome and was nice enough to let her win!

This evening we went Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood.

All ready!

Here we go!

Baylor's 100th Homecoming

Baylor University celebrated its 100th Homecoming this year. If you Wikipedia "homecoming" you will find this: "In 1909, Baylor University was the first university to hold an organized alumni event described as a 'Home-Coming' whose focus point was a varsity sports match, as well as a concert, pep rally, parade, and bonfire."

We were there to celebrate our alma mater's 100th Homecoming. We took time to remember our first Baylor Homecomings. Judd's was 12 years ago and mine was 10. We haven't missed one since!

Our weekend began by meeting our friend Joanne at Common Grounds. Then we went to Hearts 'n Crafts, a super cute boutique. Here are the kids on the steps while Judd paid for our handpainted Baylor Christmas ornament!

Our next stop was dinner at Ninfa's, where we met up with Dave. We arrived at 5:00 to beat the crowd. It's a good thing because it was packed when we left! There's nothing like some good Mexican food with good friends!

These girls became BFFs over the weekend!

The boys recalled their days in BYX and always being in the same cell group.

After dinner, we went to campus and browsed through the bookstore. Then we headed to the Bear Pit. (I think it's actually called the Bear Habitat now, but whatever!) Both bears were actually awake and walking around.

As we waited for the bonfire, we decided to kill some time at Common Grounds (again!). For those of you not familiar with Baylor or Waco, Common Grounds is a jewel of a coffee shop. It's in an old house and has an authentic "coffeehouse" atmosphere. It's probably the closest thing to heaven on earth!
Bailey, Joanne, and Dave played "I Spy"

Campbell sat on this step and admired a puppy nearby.

We finally headed back to the Fountain Mall for the bonfire. Bailey enjoyed listening to the band and seeing the cheerleaders. The bonfire itself was kind of lame. It took forever to light, but the highlight was an amazing fireworks show to celebrate the 100th Homecoming!

Daddy had his hands full!

On Saturday morning, we woke up very early and headed back to campus for the parade. This is probably our favorite Homecoming event! We have always sat in the same spot, but this year they set up bleachers which took away some of the curb side spots so we had to move across the street. We decided it was a good move because the sun was behind us instead of in our faces.

Bailey loves her Jo-Jo!

Campbell and Daddy as the parade started

I have a picture of Bailey and I with this balloon from her first three Homecomings. Last year it was Campbell's first turn. This year I tried to repeat, but he didn't want to have anything to do with it! I think he was trying to look at the bear.

The KOT float - Jungle Book

After the float passed us, it stopped dead in its tracks. Even with tons of KOT's pushing it, it wouldn't budge! They finally got it moving again.

Campbell got tired of sitting during the hold-up.

Fall Fun

Daddy and Bailey carved the pumpkin we got at Dewberry Farm! Judd wanted to do something a little different this year so he carved a fancy "C" into the pumpkin. I think it turned out great!

Dewberry Farm

We made our third annual trip to Dewberry Farm this weekend. This time, it was coupled with Presley's first birthday party. As always, we had a great time with great friends!
